Walk by Lake Rådasjön

A popular walk goes through the beech forest out towards the promontory at Labbera, where you can find a perfect spot on the rocks furthest out to eat your picnic. There’s also an old ruin here that’s worth a visit. Walks at Råda Säteri are a blend of history and nature.

The ruin at Labbera

Signs point the way through the forest to the Labbera peninsula. When you get there you can explore a slightly unusual ruin: it has namely never been a finished building. Martina von Schwerin, one of Råda Säteri’s best known owners, wanted at the beginning of the 19th century to “enhance the romance of nature” in the area, so she quite simply had her own ruin, or folly, built. A lovely example of the romantic view of history that was prevalent at that time. However there are also signs that a real ancient castle did exist here once, with a storage reservoir and boundary walls.

Caves between the rocks

Along the north shore of the promontory there’s a path going past a ridge where a boulder has fallen down and created a cave like formation. Dramatic and exciting!

Can you identify an oak, or the sound of a chaffinch?

Challenge your grandma, brother or friend to a fun nature quiz! Along the path to Labbera there are information boards with questions.
